Don’t complain of want of time…
A man came to a saint who remained ever intoxicated in self-bliss and said “Life span is short. What can I do in such a short time? The period of childhood is of ignorance. The period of youth is spent with the burden of household duties. The period of old age is a time of disease and pain. Then, how can a man spare time for attaining knowledge? When can one do selfless service?”
The Saint said: “I have never come across anyone who has been allotted even a single movement short of 24 hours in a day by Providence. Then why do you worry complaining about want of time? Give up your unnecessary desires. Make proper use of whatever you have, and be satisfied. Be vigilant and find out the acts you did during the day that you could have done without. How many idle talks you indulged in that did Good neither to you nor to the other. You just labored of talking. How much time did you waste in entertaining useless thoughts?
Don’t waste your time in useless activities but spend it in useful acts for the attainment of God. Everyone in this world has attained their goal by making proper use of the limited time available to them. Never complain of want of time”.
The enlightening conversation of the saint made that person see reason; whereupon he stopped making false excuses of insufficient time and engaged himself in making proper use of it. Just a minute’s of conversation transformed his entire perspective of life and taught him the spiritual way of living.
This is why it is said;
“Changing the perspective changed the entire scene; a change in direction took the boat to another shore”.
